The mission of DEF is to empower youth with effective decision skills that enhance their prospects for a better life. We value the individual’s right to make his or her own decisions. We aim to teach how to decide, not what to decide. We respect the challenge for all learners in developing the wide range of competencies necessary to be a skilled decision maker, including:

awareness of self and others

managing uncertainty

thinking critically and creatively

awareness and resistance to decision traps

and the exercise of appropriate self-control.
We believe significant decisions require conscious, actionable thought utilizing both “head and heart”. All decisions can benefit from the skills and habits which result from decision education.
